Quiz Money 2010
I am pleased to confirm that after some delay the quiz money raised in Feburary reached a final total of £8,200 and a cheque for £4,100 has been issued to Alzheimer Scotland and the Ayr United Football Academy.
As with previous years the money is split 50/50 in Memory of Ally Mcleod and to support the future players of Ayr United.
Can I just thank everyone who attends and supports the event and look forward to seeing you all again on Friday 4th Feb 2011. If anyone is interested in attending or able to support the event by auction items or prizes then please get in touch.
Alzheimer Scotland
The money issued to Alzheimer Scotland will used for a new initiative to use football as a prompt to help and support people in the Aberdeen area.
The Scottish Football Museum have recently announced the results of a nine month reminiscence pilot project, which used digitised photographs and other pictures from their collection with older men who have dementia. The pilot found that football reminiscence could help improve their wellbeing by increasing their self-confidence, making them feel more comfortable in a group and giving them a sense of enjoyment. They worked in partnership with Alzheimer Scotland, Culture and Sport Glasgow, The Scottish Library and Information Council, Glasgow Caledonian University and a number of football clubs to carry out and evaluate the pilot project. It was made possible by a grant from Museums Galleries Scotland

Ayr United Football Academy
The Ayr united football academy has now been running for several years and we are starting to see the major benefits of the academy and the impact to the Ayr United 1st team with serveral players from the Academy being signed such as Jonathan Tiffoney, Roddy Patterson, Ross Robertson, Darryl Jone, Iain Fisher, Aaron Connelly and Alistair Woodburn.
